Commissioner Prado’s request was made after the irregular onslaught of events in recent weeks, which put at risk the life and personal integrity of President in Charge, Juan Guaidó, part of his work team, and Freddy Guevara, Deputy to the National Assembly.

On July 12th, 2021, at noon, police agents at the service of Maduro’s dictatorship made an attempt on the life of the Interim President, Juan Guaidó, and his work team, as well as arbitrarily detentained and forcibly disappeared Deputy Freddy Guevara.

Given this, Commissioner Prado, emphasized before the OHCHR and the IACHR the systematic pattern of political persecution established by the Venezuelan regime, which has installed and maintained continuous and repeated practices for years against people who oppose its political ideology.

“Where multiple violations of civil and political rights, human rights and, above all, disrespect for life and personal integrity have been documented,” he said.

Likewise, he denounced the arbitrary detentions, forced disappearances, the opening of judicial proceedings without a legal basis, the existence of alleged judicial orders after the arrest, torture, are just some aspects of the systematic pattern of political persecution.
