“Their willingness to make joint efforts to guarantee security and peace on the border of our countries is reaffirmed,” said the appointed Colombian Foreign Minister.

He added that they appreciate the presence of Raúl Rosende, Deputy Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia at this first and historic meeting.

Leyva stated that they appreciate the dialogue in favor of building paths of peace, respect and mutual understanding.

Carlos Faría Tortosa indicated that they discussed the gradual opening of the border that will immediately benefit both countries, as well as the reestablishment of respect and solidarity.

“We consider that it has been a historic day at a time when fellow President-elect Gustavo Petro is ready to assume the role of President. Where and when we would be starting all these dynamics of actions that we have agreed on,” said Faría.
